What to say to someone that Googled your company

Have you ever had somebody tell you, “Listen, I just Googled your company, and the review was terrible”?

Anybody who’s in a small business or any MLM for any period of time I’m sure has gotten that because whenever anybody these days wants to check out something, what do you do? You Google it. It’s the first thing you do.

How do you respond to this? First of all, listen, in reality, if you’re a profitable company, the truth is there’s going to be negative stuff out there.

Why else would somebody bring this information to you, the negative stuff? Another reason might be because they want to put down your company and tell you the benefits of their own company to try to sell you something. How do most people react to this?

They become very defensive. It’s a normal reaction. You say, “Listen, you can’t believe everything you read or you hear.” They go into the benefits of their own company. They change their posture.

They become very salesy. They may even doubt themselves about their own company. What I would suggest is that there’s a better way.

I took a course recently with Ray Higdon and learned this great way to respond to the negative Google stuff that somebody might bring to you.

What I would say is this. Somebody comes to you and they say, “Listen, I Googled your company, and it’s pretty negative.”

What I would say is, “Listen, I’m glad you brought this to my attention, but you know what, the truth is if you’re easily swayed by some random stuff that some random person may have said on a search engine that you have no way of verifying, then you know what?

You’re not going to make it in this business. It’s probably not a fit for you. Thank you very much.” I think this is a great way to respond to people like this.

Also keep in mind, if you recruit a negative person like this, they’re just going to look for an excuse to quit.

Now there is an exception to this. If the response from the person is, “Listen, I didn’t believe this anyway,” invite them to a meeting, have them attend a webinar, and then ask them, “Listen, why do you want to join my business?”

If you like the response, if they do have some positivity about it, then you might consider enrolling them, might consider signing them up.

If not, just say, “Thanks. Great meeting you,” and move on to the next person. I want to just leave you with one last thought here. Remember, you get to choose who you work with.
