Well, I got to thinking recently because my newest consultant actually did just that, she quit the business.
I was thinking, why would people quit? A couple of things.
First, I think it’s important to set expectations for people. Also, the number one reason I believe people quit is that most people analyze what we call the time on investment to the return. Let me give you some examples.
First of all, people have a job, they earn a certain number of dollars or monetary units per hour worked. People who are in sales, they get a certain amount for every car they sell, for every appliance they sell.
What people then do is that they do this same analysis with network marketing or small businesses. The truth is that most people see very minimal results within six months, within a year.
People don’t understand that the first six months doesn’t necessarily correlate with the next six months.
Unfortunately, many people use the hype of financial rewards, and what this does is it raises the expectations of people even more. Then people expect more at the beginning and have even more unrealistic expectations of how long it’s going to take for them to be successful.
I really think this is one of the reasons that you see a lot of people that hop from one company to another company to another company, unrealistic expectations.
I think what we need to do is analyze how can you retain more people in your company.
Well, the first thing you need to do is you need to plug them in with other teammates and create this type of bonding atmosphere. You need to plug them into events.
You need to also of course set realistic expectations, and be sure to tell them that this is not an overnight success, but that it’s going to take some time.
In summarizing, it’s important to have focus, have realistic expectations, and also remember that the longer people stay in this business, that the greater likelihood there will be for success.
