Do you struggle with leaving voicemails? I’ve got to tell you, something I’ve struggled with as well until I started implementing what I call the three voicemail system.
By the way, this really works quite well with emails as well. What I see is the biggest problem people have with voicemails is that they just say too much. If you give all the information in the email, frankly, there’s no reason for anyone to call you back.
Another thing to remember is that the goal of a voicemail is not to explain the compensation plan. Rather, it’s to just get someone to call you back.
Here we are, you’ve got the appointment. You make the phone call, answering machine picks up. You say, “Hey there, Steve Sabo here. We were supposed to talk today at 5 p.m. Give me a call back at, and whatever the number is.” Twenty-four hours later, same thing, no answer, voicemail picks up. “Hey there, Steve Sabo here. We were supposed to talk yesterday. Hope everything’s okay.
By the way, if this isn’t a fit for you, not a problem. Just let me know so we don’t waste each other’s time. Give me a call back at … Whatever the number is.”
Forty-eight hours now after that second email, here’s the third email.
Again, email or voicemail. “Hey there, Steve Sabo here. I haven’t heard back from you so I’ve got to assume this isn’t a fit for you. Not a problem. I’m going to mark you off my list and I’m not going to call you back about this ever again. I wish you all the best.” That’s the third email that you leave. This is my three email or, again, voicemail system.
I’ve got to tell you, since I started doing that, yes, there are people, obviously, that still won’t call you back or email you back. You know what? I’ve had some people call me back within, I want to say, five minutes, and I think it’s probably from a fear of loss that people think that you’re, and you are, you’re taking that carrot away from them and they’re not going to see it again and they probably don’t even know what it’s about.
There it is, my three voicemail system.
