Dealing With Gatekeepers

Do you struggle in dealing with gatekeepers? I think, first of all, I think this is a very important topic, we get phone numbers of people all the time.

We don’t always have their direct number, and we end up speaking to gatekeepers. I recently read a book by Bob Burg called Endless Referrals.

I think it’s a terrific book. It’s good for anybody in any type of business, not just network marketing or small business.

One of the topics he talks about in the book is 6 tips for dealing with gatekeepers, and I’d like to present those to you today.

The first one is treat people like they own the company. Treat them with respect and the utmost dignity.

Number 2, know and use their first name as much as possible. I think it was Dale Carnegie who said, “Nothing is as sweet to a person’s ears as hearing their own name.”

Number 3, tell them that you need their help.

Number 4, keep them in the loop. Keep them abreast of what’s going on in your talks with the boss or the person in the company.

Number 5, put yourself in their shoes. How would you want to be treated if you were in that position.

Number 6, be of service to them. Ask them if there’s any way to help them.

Again, Bob Burg, Endless Referrals. Terrific book, great tips on referrals, and in this case, gatekeepers.
