What’s the best way to deal with people who make excuses? What I would have to say to that is that it’s a common issue as you build your business.
Now listen, you always want to help people if they show any interest in your business or your product. Y
ou want to spend time with them, you want to nurture them, you want to coach them, but it’s not always the best approach with everyone. There are some people, sometimes more than some who make a lot of excuses.
They make excuses why they’re not prospecting, why they’re not going to events, and they don’t do the things needed to build their business. Remember, there are other people in similar situations or more difficult situations that do it, and these people don’t make excuses.
You want to focus instead on those who want to succeed and those who show that they’re making an effort.
It’s said that we can teach people how to create success, but not how to want it.
Not everyone wants it as much as you do, you have to be smart about who you spend time with. Listen, don’t give up on them. It’s important to remember here that there’s a difference between the needy and the hungry.
Some people need your time, and other people are hungry. If you spend too much time with only the needy then you take away from the time you could be spending with those who are hungry. If you have people who make excuses, what you might want to do with them is give them assignments.
Tell them, “Go out, prospect 10 people and report back.” You’re going to find that many of these people will not get back to you. If they do, great, keep coaching them, keep working with them. If they don’t, you need to recognize that and focus on others.
The important thing to remember here is, spend time with those who deserve your time, not those that need your time.
